Two records at the same tempo can still fight each other. What decides whether a long blend sounds intentional or sour is key, and the Camelot system exists so that decision can be made from two characters instead of from music theory.

How to read a Camelot code
The number is a position on a wheel of twelve, and the letter says minor (A) or major (B). Keys that sit next to each other on the wheel differ by one sharp or flat, so moving between them changes almost nothing in the harmony. A minor is 8A; C major, which uses exactly the same notes, is 8B.
From any code there are three safe moves: one step down, one step up, and the same number with the other letter. Everything else is a decision rather than a default — an energy jump of two steps is a real technique, it is just not one you make by accident.

What is a Camelot code?
A two-character label for a musical key: a number from 1 to 12 for its position on the wheel, and A for minor or B for major. 8A is A minor and 8B is C major, which is why they mix — they share the same notes.
Which Camelot codes mix together?
The same code, either neighbour on the wheel, and the same number with the other letter. So from 8A: 7A, 9A and 8B. Those moves change one note or none, which is why the transition does not clash.
Do I have to mix in key?
No. Harmonic mixing avoids dissonance during a blend, which matters most when two records overlap for a long time with melodic material in both. A short cut between percussive intros needs none of it.
